Scenic on fire. Wet wooden closed and burning. Hmmm.

dreamland on fire
Picture from Kent Online -see link below

So I get in from work, put on the telly, and the headline story is Firemen battling to save Scenic as it burns. A closed wooden structure after a damp week when the wood must be pretty damn wet. Who are they kidding? It'd be quicker to list the famous bits of Thanet that haven't been torched to get them out of the way of developers...

This from KentOnline.

And the Save Dreamland Campaign forum is filling rapidly with sad and angry comments...

Now back to the telly to see just how bad it is...

Yup, as expected, a wet wooden structure looks completely destroyed. Bastards. 10 fire crews on scene, and it's still a smouldering wreck. Not sure we deserve to survive a recession as a tourist area quite frankly. Very depressed now.

ECR has a few pictures. Expect plenty of comment!

There's no way that with the wet weather and snow that this happened by accident and there surely has to be investigations into this.... or just some luxury flats instead.....

A very sad day for Thanet

I agree with adem there is no way in hell this was an accident that wood would be soaking wet.

I did see a posting on one of the amusement park forums pointing out the timbers were probably impregnated with all sorts of oils and so on, presumably to keep them waterproof rather than fire-resistant, so maybe the dampness wouldn't be a factor after all. Still, we always struggled with damp bonfires...

Oops, left that message under the wrong account. Still, we know it was arson now anyway - at least until the polic say different, which would be interesting, so the dampness or otherwise is not too relevant.
